Chrome has two features that can improve accessibility, apps and extensions. Apps open a new window. Extensions pop-up in the corner of the web browser and run in the background.
To get started click on the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser and scroll down to the sign in link. Sign in with your school account.

Chrome Apps and extensions
When you are signed in and open Chrome, you can click on the little gray tab to the right of the X. This will open a new tab and you will see your Apps as well as the Chrome Store where you can find many more Apps.
The following Apps can be used to help students complete their classwork and homework.
Google drive and gmail****
These Apps are just a quick way to get to your Gmail and Drive windows.
Google search***
This one allows you to use your voice to search on the Google search engine
Speech RECOGNIZER***
This App will type for you. All you have to do is click on the microphone and talk. When you are done cut and paste your text into your word processor.
Chrome Speak***
This is only one of several ways that you can make Chrome read text out loud. The App opens a window that allows you to control the voice settings. Once you set your preferred voice speed, pitch etc. , you highlight text and right click to read.
The following Apps are fun ways to practice skills
WORD JOUST****
This game with a Medieval theme helps students practice new vocabulary through a series of "quests". The game adjusts to the students level and needs. It also keeps track of student progress.

Extensions
To find extensions go to the Chrome store and scroll all the way to the bottom in the menu on the left side of the page. Click on extensions and add the ones you would like to try.
Appwriter*****
This extension runs in the background of Google Docs. It is a word processor with word prediction. You must be logged in to Chrome with a Saline Schools Gmail account as this is a paid service.
Read&Write****
This extension also runs in Google Docs. It shows up as a pull down menu in the center of the window. When you open it, a control opens. The nice thing about this reader is you simply place the curser and start reading. No highlighting is necessary. I also has built in dictionaries and a web search tool.
awesome screenshot***
This is a really easy way to take screen shots. No need to remember shortcut keys
